Leading the Local Energy Transition

Resources and case studies for local authorities who want to lead their local transition towards a decarbonised, democratised and decentralised energy system.

ACCESS our knowledge

Leading the Local Energy Transition contains knowledge and insights from Advancing Communities towards low-Carbon Energy Smart Systems (ACCESS).

ACCESS brought together four frontrunner local authorities with four knowledge partners to test how local authorities could lead their local energy transition

Our interactive guide summarises four years of work in ACCESS.

Suitable for local energy system practitioners and those making decisions about the future of local energy.

Case Studies

See how four local authorities led local energy system development through ACCESS, reducing carbon emissions and cutting energy costs for residents and businesses.

Amersfoort

Amersfoort deployed heat battery technology and a smart battery offering storage-as-a-service to lower residential energy bills and ease grid congestion.

Malmö

Malmö deployed smart EV charging and solar and battery co-location to turn a new car park installation into a mobility hub that supports the local grid.

Mechelen

Mechelen deployed vehicle-to-grid, smart EV charging, energy management systems, and energy sharing agreements to build an advanced e-mobility hub.

West Suffolk

West Suffolk worked with  businesses to set up peer-to-peer energy trading and scalable energy efficiency services to reduce energy bills for local businesses.
